The Kitchen Bench Redo

Warning: This Is Not My Kitchen

But I love it, oh so much. I never pass up a chance to tell Brenda at Cozy Little House how much I love her red kitchen, which she has a knack for mixing with blue and yellow.

The red cabinet is her coffee station. I love that red cabinet.

So in spite of my current fixation with aqua as seen here and here, I still wanted red in my kitchen so I could be a little bit like Brenda, who has the cutest kitchen in the entire world. Maybe the whole universe.

Remember the bench I showed you last week? It's an old bench I picked up at a yard sale a few years back.

I like hearts. Hearts remind me of love, and love makes me feel all warm and ... well, loved.

My poor tired bench looks pretty boring, wouldn't you say?

As I mentioned last week, I wanted to do something to give this bench a little "pop" of color, to bring more interest into my somewhat dull kitchen. So I copied Brenda and painted it ... red.

Here's how I painted the bench - Rustoleum spray paint in Colonial Red:

Here it is again with my (free with a coupon from Plow and Hearth) doggie pillow:

And this is what it looks like with my husband's grandmother's quilt:

Here's the picture wall which lives above my red bench:

I kind of like the dog pillow best, what do you think, the pillow or the quilt?

Needs a red coffee station next to it, right?

The pictures and do-dads on the wall were added one at a time since we moved into this house ... including a picture of my childhood home, a red chalkboard, and a clock. The rooster picture is framed in red, too.

So we're getting some Cozy Little House red in the kitchen. Love. it.

And here's a little thingie I put together on my counter to add some red into the opposite end of the kitchen:

Scored the little lamp - with red trim - at Ross. The little rooster had been with me for some time.

So although the rest of my house is an electic mix of elegant bathroom cabinets, dining room antiques, and a beachy den ... my kitchen reflects the little girl who grew up in the country and who still lives on the farm - somewhere off in a corner of her heart.

My bench is now red. Red like Brenda's Cozy Little Kitchen. And I'm oh-so-happy with it.

Thanks, Brenda, for having a great blog and for letting me show off some of your awesome kitchen pictures!

  15. Spray paint?! Really?! You did an awsome job! Can you give us some tips? I'm afraid that with my spray painting skills, I'd botch it up. ♥ Oh, I posted a rooster today if you want to come see!

    GOING FOR THE RED

“If forced to make choices,” she said,
“I’d go for the crimson and red.
    I’d let go of green,
    (Some think it’s obscene),
    Embracing magenta instead.”

  18. LOVE the bench! I have one similar and have been debating on painting it. Spray paint? WOW! I never gave it a thought until I saw yours. Did you sand, prime or do any other prep work before painting? Answer soon please! I'm dying to know so I can get me some spray paint and paint my bench too. I'm such a copycat!
