My Childhood Treasures

Today I want to introduce you to some very special items.

(I had to replace her little dress some years back.)

I have kept these items all through my life, and since I'm vintage, they are also vintage.

I can't remember my baby's name, but I'm sure she had one.

As an adult I came home to Mom's one day to find our childhood blocks on the porch in a pile of things being sent to the dump. How many times have I thanked God I happened to show up at that moment?!

These little books were my two favorites from the many Mom read to me. But my favorite was All Aboard. Little Molly is taking the train with her mother (and her dolly) to visit Grandmother. So exciting to me, a little country girl growing up on the farm.

I will keep these treasured items all my life, and some day they will belong to Miss E. And perhaps she will read the little books to her daughter some day.

Do you have treasures from your childhood? I'd love to hear about them.

  1. I have my Teddy. He was given to me by my Grandmother when I was born. He has lost all of his hair...except on his little behind! He has a bell in his left ear. Teddy is so threadbare that I made him a sweater when I was in college! (Could that be why I didn't date much?) Anyway...he's a keeper!

  13. Your baby has the cutest pug nose, she is so adorable. You really arrived at the right time. I have my Wedding Doll from 1957, I've had to replace her dress too-actually my Sis made a reproduction from the original dress. Love the blocks too.

  17. I have many of my Little Golden Books too and I am vintage also. One in particular is special to me-Fun with Decals. I have such fond memories of my mother reading this book to me. It was about a rainy day that the mother made the best of entertaining the children with artistic ways with decals. The illustrations are darling and of a kinder and gentler time. Thanks for the nostalgia. Love your vintage books. So sweet.

  18. You have some treasures. I have the head of a "Toni" doll, remember her. I could give her a perm with sugar water. Not sure what happened to her body. :<(
Books are the best, especially those lovely pictures.

  19. What a good idea to do a post on childhood treasures! I'll have to do that too, someday. I have lots of our sons' toys and books, and our grandbabies love them. We really don't have many new toys in our home, and they love to play with these. Thanks for sharing this sweet post.

  20. It would have been such a shame for those blocks to go to the dump -- I'm glad you rescued them!

All Aboard is the sweetest looking book. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for a copy.

  24. Oh, I'm so glad you were there in time to rescue these treasures. Your little baby doll has the sweetest face. I loved Golden Books, and we had shelves full of them. Have no idea what happened to them through the years, but I do have my teddy bear, my little red cash register, and my dolls.
Enjoyed seeing your treasures! ~ Sarah

  25. Ah . . .
I see you books have my favorite golden book illustrator Eloise Wilkin.

  26. Thanks so much for linking up with me! Both those books look so wonderful! I haven't run across them, but I adore Eloise Wilkin's illustrations! It looks like the playground one is done by her-so adorable... And my boys love trains, so they'd really like that other one as well. I'll have to keep a lookout for both of those!

  27. Oh such cute illustrations!! I want to see some pages from the other book too! Maybe next week?

I don't have anything from my childhood but my memories. I think that why I've started collecting so many vintage things.

  28. I meant to mention that I came today by way of Corey's story book party! ♥

  29. How fortunate you were to rescue your blocks. I have a dress and pillow that my mom saved and gave to me a few years back.

  30. I still have my Teddy and my Raggedy Ann doll (made by my late Aunty Isabelle). How I cherish them! My doll's leg "broke" in half because the fabric was so fragile, but I may get it fixed. I can't bear to part with my childhood memories, esp. now that we just sold our family home.
