This adorable birdie was designed by my niece, Penny - she is such an artiste!
This week I finally learned the proper way to sew a blanket stitch, the edging that brings such magic to felt ornaments. A Google search for "how to blanket stitch" led me to an easy tutorial. I think I will get better and better at this with practice.
On Pinterest, I spotted this snowman made from sheet music and decided to try it. I found "vintage sheet music" online and copied that.
Remember last weekend's snowman plaque? This guy is very different from that version ~
This snowman will be cute enough on the Christmas tree. He's trying to grab my button, right?! Must be a blogging snowman.
Several of last week's readers wanted to see pictures from my childhood book, A Day at the Playground, so here are a few.
Isn't that little cherub face the cutest?
The book was published in 1951 and has an inscription that it was given to my brother by our aunt. Guess when I came along a couple years later, it was passed down to me.
A Day at the Playground was written by Miriam Schlein, and again the pictures are by Eloise Wilkin.
Hope you enjoyed this Friday Potpourri. Have a great weekend!
Don't forget we have a fun giveaway going on here ~

such precious creations and the sweetest book!!! thanks for sharing with us...hugs...
ReplyDeleteI love the little sheet music snowman. I have used vintage glass ornaments the last few years, but I may go for a more homemade look on the tree this year. Thanks for the ideas.
ReplyDeleteI tried commenting here yesterday and I don't think it went through. Hopefully this one will.
ReplyDeleteI like your little birdie. There are so many great tutorials to be found online. I thank God for the Internet!
Thanks for showing your book! I love Eloise Wilkin! I couldn't quite make out the one picture but it sure looks like snow to me! ♥
Eloise Wilkin illustrated 47 golden book. One of my favorites is "The Visit" as the house is just around the corner from me. It was her grandparent's home but is now the Alumni House for SUNY Brockport (NY). The book shows the most delicious attic - a perfect place to play.
ReplyDeleteSuch cute crafts!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... maybe those are big rocks instead of snow?
That book has the sweetest illustrations. Maybe the white is cotton. When I get my beach blogs done, you'll see some fantastic pictures of fields of snow. Also, did you see where another blogger used that snowman and made a plaque? I knew you had pinned it, so I was curious to see what you would do with it.
ReplyDeleteThat book is so sweet and you sew very well. Your blanket stitch looked perfect to me. xo
ReplyDeleteYou're good at needlework! That little birdie is adorable and so is your snowman!
ReplyDeleteNow thank you for your advice, Dr. Redo! :) Just bill me! :)
Be a sweetie and thanks for popping in to see me.
Shelia;)
Love the little felt bird ~ so cute! Your book is just adorable, I always loved the Little Golden Books. The picture could be of the first really warm spring day so the snow is melting and everyone is coming out to play!
ReplyDeleteI love Eloise WIlkins, the artist of your book. She sure knew how to draw children.
ReplyDeleteThe sheet music snowman is so cute!

What a precious Golden book! I collect them but don't think I have seen this one! Very nice post! ♥ PS I think they are rocks, too! I was 1 year old in '51...just the right age for this sweet book! ♥
ReplyDeleteI love Eloise Wilkin so much - those sweet chubby rosy cheeked children she creates are just beautiful.
