I bought my first Farmer's Almanac this year because I wanted help with dates to start seeds and outdoors planting.
There's so much more than just these facts, though. A writer includes a monthly article on his gardening adventures, and it's a delightful read. I tried to read some of it to Mr. Redo the other night but he just said, "Turn out the light and let's go to sleep." Can you imagine not wanting to hear a gardening story?
Oh well, I just caught the gardening bug last summer, I guess he'll catch up eventually.
Last weekend I was in The Christmas Tree Shoppe and found these. Another step towards this summer's garden: Beefsteak tomatoes, small and large zinnias (my faves), impatiens, and Elizabeth chose a pack of wildflowers. How totally exciting is that?!
Did you start thinking about gardening as soon as Christmas was over, like I did? Can. not. wait.

My father had to have the Farmer's Almanac every year. He believed in it. Each year we plan on a big garden and each year in the spring their work gets so busy that there is little time to garden so it's mostly tomatoes, cucumbers and some salad stuff. I have to have herbs. But oh, when I was younger, I canned and pickled and filled the freezer each summer and fall. I miss homemade chili sauce for my chili but arthritis in a few fingers makes me stick to the store bought stuff now.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! I'm Cassandra from Renaissance Women and I found you via Claudia's 'A Favorite Thing' bloghop.
ReplyDeleteThis year for the first time I'm really excited about gardening and that is do to a friend of mine from church. She lives in an apartment and misses gardening a lot. I live in a house with a good sized backyard (which I rarely do more than keep the grass cut) so in essence, I gave her my yard. She is so excited and now has ME so excited that I can't wait until we get a real springhere in Dallas to begin the work. We're in the planning stage now and I just might pick up a copy of the Almanac to help it along.
Great post! Have a great weekend!
I remember having the Farmer's Almanac every year many, many years ago. I haven't read one in ages.
ReplyDeleteYes!!!! I am working on some 'crafts' for the garden this year. xo
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought about a garden this year at all! :(
ReplyDeleteI am constantly dreaming of gardening - especially during this deep freeze! Thanks for the reminder about the Farmer's Almanac - I will buy a copy this week.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in, my friend.

I dream of gardening too, I would so love a wonderful veggie garden. We'll try our hand at some again this year but sadly it seems we are not so good at it, so disappointing. Our hearts are in it but we're lacking in the green thumb arena.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a lovely thriving garden!
