"I've done some really bad things
in my life," my 97-year-old uncle said to his sister recently. She called and told me about it.
My reply: "Haven't we all!!!"
I decided to pay
a visit and see what he thought about this problem.
After chit chat, I mentioned
I'd heard he was concerned about his sin. He agreed and said a Christian lady who lives in his assisted living gave him a
tract recently.
"I read it three or four times," he said.
I asked if he would like to settle the
matter. He allowed me to share the facts: we have all sinned; Jesus died on the cross to take our punishment; Jesus rose from the dead to show us the way; we can be forgiven - of all - by trusting Him.
My uncle believed this when I told
him, so we held hands, bowed our heads, and prayed together.
Erasing the "really bad things" he'd done in his life.
Erasing the "really bad things" he'd done in his life.
Salvation - eternal life with God - assured.
So simple. Yet so hard for a man, a woman, to understand.
But then one day, the understanding comes. The work of the Holy Spirit combined with the Truth of the Word when hearts are opened.
He waited 97 years to hear it, to really hear it.
Thankfully, he was given enough days to hear and make his decision.

ReplyDeleteOh, Mary! How precious and how marvelous God used you to help him understand forgiveness. What a blessing and thank you for sharing. This is really something because I think the older we get our hearts grow a little harder sometimes.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia :)
AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteMary, when he made his decision, the Angels in heaven were rejoicing for another soul had been brought into the fold ! Amen and Amen
ReplyDeleteMy father didn't accept Christ as his saviour until he was well into his 80's, although my mother had been a believer since her 20's. I prayed my whole life for my father, and finally that wonderful day came. Dad has since passed on, but I KNOW I will see him again ;-)
Amazing news! Praise God!
